The chapel

At my synagogue, we have the main sanctuary where we do Friday night services, Saturday mornings if there is a bar or bat mitzvah, and high holiday services. Then we have a chapel. A small circular room, made of stone, with amazing acoustics.

That’s where we have services on Saturday mornings. We usually don’t have more than 20 people, so even the chapel can feel empty. Tonight I went, after reiki, to shul for a shiva minyan. Probably 30 people or so and, wow, did we fill the room with voices. It was amazing.

It sent me back to the tiny shul in Jerusalem. The full voices, the small room. It filled me up. I don’t get that every time I go to shul, but sometimes it hits just the right spot.
