Nefesh BNefesh and Reform Converts

I’ll admit it, I’m very bummed not to be going to the International Jewish Blogging Summit in Jerusalem created by Nefesh B’Nefesh . I’m sad that I wasn’t asked to be included as a blogger recording a chartered Aliyah flight like so many of my friends. I was relieved to learn that I was recommended to participate, but I still wasn’t invited.

Whenever something like this happens, I jump to the conclusion that the organizers don’t count my conversion as valid. While I never doubt my Jewishness, I know there are organizations, governments and individuals who don’t recognize it.

So before I jumped to the conclusion that Nefesh B’Nefesh would never help a Reform JBC, I thought I’d ask.

Dear Leah,

Nefesh B’Nefesh can assist those who have Reform conversions. However, we do want to make our applicants aware that in the eyes of the Israeli Rabbinate a Reform convert, nor his/her children will be recognized as Jewish. This is particularly relevant regarding marriage. should you be interested in Orthodox conversion programs in Israel, I have included some information below.
All my best,
